CAYLUS-Inhalant Abuse Prevention Initiaitives in Central Australia
The Central Australian Youth Link-Up Service (CAYLUS) was founded in 2002 in response to endemic levels of Petrol Sniffing in the region at that time. Since it commenced CAYLUS has worked with over 20 remote communities supporting a wide variety of inhalant misuse prevention initiatives as well as the development of appropriate treatment and rehab options.
CAYLUS advocacy led to the development in the NT of specific Inhalants Legislation. CAYLUS was pivotal in the community campaign that led to the eventual regional roll out of Low Aromatic Opal Fuel.
In this presentation Blair McFarland and Tristan Ray the joint-Coordinators of CAYLUS will outline some of the most successful substance misuse prevention initiatives and will discuss the community campaign that led to the roll out of Opal Fuel and how this has integral to the ongoing success of the Opal strategy.
They will also launch Mc Farlands paper "The Opal Alliance' which outlines the community development aspects of the Opal Campaign.
